PART 2 OF 2

— CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS POST—

  • ...The manufacturers are the ones who ultimately must give us the "thumbs up" on each engineered part since they're the ones physically building the tooling and molds.
  • Materials! As you know, we've already done massive amounts of material research and testing on our end during our prototyping phase.  Now, in our effort to equip Stickybones with the very best and highest performing materials we possibly can, we're excited to announce that we've teamed up with a specialty engineered materials team who share our keen interest in implementing the highest-performance solution.  We're working with chemical engineers to help us lock down the FINAL materials their company will compound and then supply us with for Stickybones!  Our final selection will provide Stickybones with the very best functionality and will be proudly rolled into the creation of every Stickybones we make and ship to you!
  • Packaging!  We've been doing lots of research and thinking about what we'd like to achieve with our Stickybones packaging.  We've now selected our packaging contractor and have communicated to this person some ideas and compiled some visual examples of what we envision.  They will now create a packaging "prototype" for us to review and tweak for final approval.  What sort of requirements, questions, and packaging solutions have we been working on?—For starters, how can we keep packaging light and easily ship-able for cost efficiency to our backers, while maintaining a strong, high-quality and appealing package?  What sort of items might potentially be put "in the box" with the Stickybones figure?  How to best secure the Stickybones figure inside the box so it does not rattle and bang around loosely during shipment?  If there are several ways to do this, what's the most effective solution?  How much will it add to the total weight of the package?  How do the magnets factor in?  What about the extra set of hands for the stretch goal...how shall they be situated?  ETC. :)

The Takeaway!  We've been addressing, researching, and solving many hundreds of both micro and macro decisions and solutions!  Ultimately, every decision is made with our number one priority being to uphold Stickybones' amazing functionality.  Functionality above all!

Thanks for reading and thanks for being awesome, dear BACKERS!  Because of YOU, we are blasting forward with the manufacturing of Stickybones!

Part 1 of 2

Hellooo Stickybones Backers!!

We'd love to give you a detailed update on what we've been up to!  (This update is in 2 parts--this is PART 1.)  Not a day, night, or weekend has gone by that we're not pushing forward with the manufacturing phase of Stickybones. When we're not in the workshop or at our computers working on Stickybones, we're talking about Stickybones. When we're not talking about Stickybones, we're thinking about Stickybones.  And when we're not thinking about Stickybones we're asleep and dreaming about Stickybones. (Not joking!) You get the point!  :D

What specifically are we working on? Many things at once! But to highlight a few key categories——

  • Engineering For Injection Molding  (We are JUST ABOUT DONE with this!)  This is arguably the most important phase. We continue to work closely on a near-daily basis with our amazing engineering consultant.  This engineering firm is one of the best in Silicon Valley and we consider ourselves incredibly fortunate and honored to have the pleasure of their superb consultancy!  What are we consulting with them about?  Engineering for tooling and molds.  Proper engineering for tooling and molds is so imperative because everything down the line depends on it. We must take each unique part of the Stickybones prototype (30 unique parts, 39 parts total) and "re-create" them in a language and format that can then be built into the final molds, while also adhering to the countless "laws" of engineering for injection molding. Proper engineering for tooling ensures that the injection process will work correctly and yield precise and consistent results. For example, specific design and engineering requirements must be carefully adhered to in order to aid the proper flow of molten polymer material within our molds during the injection of each part. This process is one of the many steps we're taking to achieve the precise and consistent close tolerance structure that is unique to Stickybones. It's an incredibly complex and challenging process, especially with something as organic and unique as Stickybones, and it's going fantastically—As we mentioned, we're just about done!  Woohoo!
  • Manufacturer! We are simultaneously working closely with the heads of one of California's top precision injection-molding manufacturing companies who are reviewing the engineering designs of each Stickybones part to ensure they're good to go.    .....

Hello Stickybones Backers!

We hope that everyone is doing well and enjoying the start of Spring!  We thought it would be a great time to check in and give you an update about what we've been up to!

What We're Up To Now--

Currently, we are full-on immersed in the engineering of Stickybones for tooling and manufacturing.  For this phase, we've teamed up with one of the top engineering firms in Silicon Valley in order to arrive at the very best performance of our manufactured parts.  We're working on key joint components first— Once these are approved for final tooling, we will blaze through the rest of the parts using the same engineering methodology for consistency throughout the Stickybones figure.  These final engineering details will then be used to build the steel tooling and molds.  The building of the tooling and molds can take a few months, as they are incredibly laborious and precise!  Once the tooling and molds are built, our manufacturer will use them to inject the Stickybones parts!  These parts will be assembled and then packaged. The packaged Stickybones will then be taken to our fulfillment partner who will then ship them out to our backers!  Woohoo!

As always, feel free to reach out to us anytime!

Cheers!

The Stickybones Team

FAQs

Q:  How can I update my mailing address?

A:  You don't need to worry about that right now.  We will absolutely reach out long before shipping to get your information, as well as collect shipping fees.  Then, we'll re-confirm your mailing address again a few days before shipping.

Q:  I'm an international backer, are there import taxes or customs I'll need to cover?

A:  Yes, most likely.  Each country is different and duty rates will vary from country to country.

Q:  I can't find a confirmation email from a contribution I made, what should I do?

A:  Email [email protected] and more often than not, they can locate it for you from the back end dashboard.

Hello Backers!

Our Indiegogo Campaign has wrapped, however our journey together is just beginning! Now, with your support we can make Stickybones available to everyone. We take your support very seriously. We will work closely with our manufacturing team to ensure the highest quality and give you the most functional and versatile poseable figure possible. We love and appreciate your feedback, so feel free to reach out to us any time.

We will post project updates here throughout the production process.

We now have an InDemand page on Indiegogo, that will allow your friends and family to keep supporting us and enjoying pre-sale prices. (The very best deals were during the LIVE campaign, but InDemand still has great discounted pricing.) If you supported us during our live campaign and your estimated perk shipping date said November, that is still your estimated shipping month. We've now pre-sold 5000+ Stickybones units, aka the "first run." The next round of Stickybones pre-sold via "InDemand" are currently estimated by our manufacturer to ship by January. We aim to deliver the second run in time for Christmas, but cannot currently guarantee shipment any sooner than January for this second run. If that date changes we will let you know asap. If you are in the "first run" November shipping group, and want to pre-order a Fly-Rig or Performance Stage now, during InDemand, we will be able to ship those out to you at the same time as your November Stickybones.

With supporters from 82 countries around the globe and growing, our live campaign wrapping with $473,577 in Stickybones contributions, we want to say THANK YOU to every single person who believes in us and believes in the usefulness of Stickybones. Stickybones could not happen without you, and we take that to heart.

Sincerely, Team Stickybones
